Charles Cunane, 82
Emma Louise Brandon, 92
passed away on March 23rd, 2026. Emma was born on January 15, 1934, in the Bronx, NY to Robert and Emma Schweizer. Her parents immigrated to America from Germany and raised their seven children as proud New Yorkers. Emma met the love of her life, Eugene (Gene) Brandon, when she was a teenager. The pair married in 1955 at St Jerome’s Catholic Church and soon had 5 children. At that time, they made their exodus out of the Bronx to the suburbs of New Jersey where they had their sixth child. In Hillsdale, Emma spent many years volunteering for the PTA at St John’s Parish and The Women’s Auxiliary of the Elks Club – serving as President of both while raising her growing family.
Emma and Gene moved around often for Gene’s career as a Chemist. They spent time in Fairport (NY), Marlton (NJ), Falmouth (ME), West Orange (NJ) and Lewes (DE). For the past 20 years, Emma has lived in the Philadelphia suburbs to be near many of her children and grandchildren.
Emma was a wonderful Mother and Homemaker. She loved to brag about her children and grandchildren – who were the smartest, best-looking people in the world to her! She taught them the true meaning of Unconditional Love – each one was her “favorite”.
She was also a “Fashionista” and loved working in retail stores like Filene’s. Anyone who knew Emma knows she would always have an “outfit” on. Even her velour sweatsuits had matching flats and jewelry to go with them!
She loved the excitement of Casinos and spent many of her retirement days enjoying the slot machines at Harrah’s. She loved Wheel of Fortune. She specialized in cooking German food with Sauerbraten being her prized meal. Her family even started a holiday around it called German Thanksgiving.
Emma is survived by her beloved children: Emma Scattaglia (Steve), Eugene (Nancy), Mark (Donna), Aileen Welsh (Michael), Dorothy Olsen (Eric) and her daughter-in-law Julie Brandon. She left behind five siblings: Carl Schweizer, Louise Riche, Katrin Walsh (George), Lillian Rauch and Hildegarde Wexler (Paul) in addition to all of her Brandon family in-laws and many beloved nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by her 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren who were the joy of her life.
Emma is predeceased by her husband, Gene, her son Robert (which was one of the biggest challenges of her life), and her brother, Robert Schweizer. Our hope is that she is reunited in heaven with them now and at peace.
The family would like to thank the Staff at Laurel Manor Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center that took such wonderful care of her during her last years of life. They always treated her with the utmost respect and care.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Monday, April 13th from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at St Vincent Pallotti Church (St Joseph the Worker Parish), 901 Hopkins Rd, Haddon Township, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Interment will be held privately on a separate day.
of Boonton, NJ, formerly of Haddon Twp. & Pennsauken, NJ, passed away March 26, 2026, at the NJ Fireman’s Home. Born Sept. 5, 1943, in Stratford, he grew up in Lindenwold, son of the late William H. & Elizabeth Cunane. Beloved husband of the late Margaret “Peggy” (nee Strickland).
Charlie will be remembered as a giving, generous and loyal man who was always there for his family and anyone in need. He took pride in helping others and bringing joy to those around him, whether lending a hand, sharing a laugh, or playing Santa in the town parade. He brought comfort and connection to all who knew him.
Charlie was a dedicated volunteer fireman with West Collingswood Heights Fire Co., where he was a member for over 60 years, a Fourth Degree and Honorary Life member of the Knights of Columbus, Santa Maria Council in Haddon Twp. He also worked for Haddon Twp. Public Works before spending 33 years with the Camden Co. Medical Examiner’s Office, retiring in 2005. He assisted many funeral homes throughout South Jersey. Charlie had a gift for connecting with people and truly seemed to know everyone wherever he went.
Survived by his brother Frank (Barbara), sisters-in-law Annabelle and Marie, nieces and nephews Daniel (Sharon), Richard (Melissa), Gina (Brian), Michele (Stephen), Kevin (Stephanie), Kristi (Dean), Kurt (Melissa), Sheril and Tracy, and many great-nieces and nephews.
